Border: France-Belgium
European programmes
The funding of cross-border projects along the French-Belgian border is based on three European operational programmes:
Interreg IVA Two Seas
Interreg IVA France-Wallonie-Vlaanderen
The France-Wallonia-Flanders programme (France-Wallonie-Vlaanderen – FWVL) brings together three French departments and twelve Belgian arrondissements. It also includes, from the adjacent area, four French departments and thirteen Belgian arrondissements. Born of the merger in 2000 of three INTERREG IIA programmes, the FWVL programme is made up of three sub-programmes, each with a dedicated budget and its own steering committee.
The programme’s managing authority is Wallonia. The programme’s national authority for France is the Conseil régional of the Nord-Pas de Calais Region.
The programme was adopted on 15 November 2007 with a budget of €138 million of ERDF funding, and supports economic development, culture and tourism, cross-border services to the area’s population and joint management of the territory aimed at sustainable, coordinated and integrated development of the living environment for citizens.
