The session plans to approach the topic of "living areas" from three different yet complementary angles: the vision of European and cross-border institutions (MOT, CoR), the vision of organised civil society (CESER Grand Est/CESGR), the issue of cross-border public services at EGTC level.

This conference draws on the specific example of Brexit as a territorial transition that has had significant effects on cooperation in the English Channel space, and more precisely in the Strait of Dover. From this specific example, the conference widens the analysis and introduces a comparative approach with other regional cooperation initiatives in maritime areas: Mediterranean Sea, North Sea, the Atlantic Ocean.
As part of the international conference "Contesting 21st Century B/Orders", the TEIN Annual Conference will be held on September 6th though 8th, 2023, following the TEIN General Assembly on the morning of the 6th.
In these uncertain times, the University of Eastern Finland’s Joensuu campus is offering an exciting summer school opportunity looking at European borderland security in light of the War in Ukraine. A multi-disciplinary programme that addresses the new global geopolitical reality through the lenses of, e.g. history, cross-border personal, political and economic relations, media and public policy, this course for senior undergraduates/post-graduates (5 ECTS) is uniquely located in Finland’s borderlands (about 70km to the nearest border crossing with Russia) and includes an excursion to the border town of Imatra, the site of Finland’s forthcoming border fence.

The Commission has established the Group of high-level specialists on the future of Cohesion Policy. The group will reflect on how to maximize the effectiveness of Cohesion policy with a view to tackling the multiple challenges identified in the 8th Cohesion Report, from the innovation divide to the demographic change. It will bring together representatives of academia, national, regional and local politicians, socio-economic partners and representatives of civil society, and will publish its strategic conclusions and recommendations in early 2024.
